Alan Menken’s music and lyrics have become an integral part of the fabric of our lives since his first works were produced nearly 40 years ago. Menken has won eight Academy Awards, more than any other living individual. Song and score credits for film musicals include Disney classics such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast, Newsies, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Home on the Range, Enchanted, and Tangled. His most recent GRAMMY win came in 2011 for Best Song Written For Visual Media for “I See The Light” (from Tangled). He has also composed songs for films such as Rocky V, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Life With Mikey, Noel and Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger. His chart-topping songs have included “Beauty and the Beast,” “A Whole New World,” “Colors of the Wind” and “Go the Distance.” Winner of the 2012 Tony and Drama Desk awards for his score for Newsies, Menken has also won 11 GRAMMY Awards (including Song Of The Year for “A Whole New World”); seven Golden Globes; London’s Evening Standard Award; the Olivier Award; the Outer Critics Circle Award and the Drama Desk Award. In 2001 he received the distinction of being named a Disney Legend. The GRAMMY Museum welcomes Menken to the Clive Davis Theater for a conversation surrounding his illustrious career, hosted by Scott Goldman, Vice President of the GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares.
