The GRAMMY Museum made a concerted effort in assessing the Muzak archives that were recently discovered in South Carolina. The extensive music collection had more that 20,000 unreleased mastered recordings dating back to 1934 and were preserved by the Museum with the help of Gucci Timepiece & Jewelry. To celebrate the collaboration, The GRAMMY Museum, in conjunction with The Recording Academy and Gucci, created new traveling interactive exhibits which premiered on March 28, 2011 in Basel, Switzerland. The exhibits, travelled to participating Gucci stores throughout Europe, Asia, South America and the United States, featuring not only interactive components, but items from past GRAMMY Museum Public Programs, GRAMMY Awards ephemera, information on the preservation of Muzak collection and musical instruments.
