The GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to welcome Dan Navarro to the Museum’s Clive Davis Theater for an intimate conversation moderated by Steve Hochman about his career and the making of his new album Horizon Line, followed by a performance.
Dan Navarro is the very definition of an itinerant arts worker. As a singer, songwriter and voiceover artist, he has spent more than three decades traveling literally and metaphorically to wherever his multi-faceted career has taken him. His aptly named latest release Horizon Line is a collection of original songs focusing on the road ahead with unguarded optimism tempered by the wisdom of experience.
Perhaps best known as the co-writer of the GRAMMY-nominated Pat Benatar hit, “We Belong,” he could write a book on the doors that song alone has opened for him. Recently featured on the hit series This is Us, it has been the centerpiece for national commercials for Pepsi, Chase Bank and Sheraton Hotels.
Born in Los Angeles and raised bi-lingual in a town bordering California and Mexico, Navarro was a music major at UCLA, managed the classical music department at Tower Records and worked as a singing waiter at the storied Great American Food and Beverage Company, where he first began to collaborate with Eric Lowen.
Lowen & Navarro went on to record and release twelve albums, enjoy widespread Triple A radio airplay and perform 1500 gigs before Eric Lowen’s retirement in 2008 and passing from ALS in 2012 prompting Dan to embark on a solo career.
His success as a solo artist was undeterred by the Coronavirus. His response to the Covid lockdown was to perform 250 LIVE shows from his living room during which time he retrofitted a van he dubbed Vanessa to embark on the NomadDan tour of socially distanced venues in 2021 that continues to this day.
He parlayed his ability to speak English and Spanish into a parallel career as a much-in-demand voiceover actor and singer with numerous feature film, television and commercial credits highlighted by Academy Award winning films Coco, Happy Feet and Encanto featuring his vocals on the #1 single “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” His television and commercial credits include Family Guy, American Dad, Toyota, Coca Cola, and McDonalds, among many others.
He serves on the SAG AFTRA Board and volunteers his time for the annual Folk Alliance.
