In conjunction with the release of his new album, The Long-Awaited Album (Sept. 22/Rounder Records), the GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to welcome five-time GRAMMY winner Steve Martin to the Clive Davis Theater for an intimate Q&A spotlighting his new album with The Steep Canyon Rangers. Hosted by GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Scott Goldman, the evening will feature a conversation with Martin and three-time GRAMMY winner Peter Asher, who produced the album.
Martin’s musical career is an extension of the storytelling impulse that drove his work as a comedian, an actor, a screenwriter, a playwright, an essayist, and a novelist.
The Long-Awaited Album is Martin’s brand-new project with the North Carolina GRAMMY-winning group the Steep Canyon Rangers and produced by GRAMMY-winning producer Peter Asher. The album is full of stories that mix humor and melancholy, whimsy and realism, rich characters and evocative details. And lots of banjos. That instrument-so dexterously, even acrobatically picked and strummed-proves just as crucial to relating these tales as the lyrics themselves, each chord and riff revealing depths to Martin’s narrators and to his musical talent. The album marks Martin’s fifth album and second with the Steep Canyon Rangers, following the release Rare Bird Alert in 2011. Martin also collaborated with Edie Brickell on 2013’s Love Has Come For You and So Familiar in 2015.
