The Drop: Tech N9ne

The GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to welcome multiplatinum artist Tech N9ne to the Museum’s intimate 200-seat Clive Davis Theater for an evening celebrating his album release, 5816 Forest, with a discussion about his creative process, career, and more. There will be a performance to follow.

Tech N9ne (born Aaron Dontez Yates) is a pioneering American rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur hailing from Kansas City, Missouri. Renowned for his rapid-fire flow, intricate lyricism, and genre-defying sound, Tech N9ne co-founded Strange Music in 1999, transforming it into one of the most successful independent labels in hip-hop history. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has cultivated a massive global fanbase through relentless touring, boundary-pushing music, and an uncompromising DIY ethic.

Tech N9ne’s discography boasts landmark albums such as Anghellic, Everready, All 6’s and 7’s, and Special Effects. His collaborations span a diverse range of artists, including Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, Corey Taylor, and even Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Notably, his 2021 track “Face Off” featuring Johnson became a viral sensation, further cementing his cross-genre appeal.

In 2024, Tech N9ne expanded his musical horizons by collaborating with Falling In Reverse and Alex Terrible of Slaughter To Prevail on the track “Ronald,” which made waves on the Billboard Rock charts. He also delivered a sold-out performance with the Kansas City Symphony, showcasing his versatility and commitment to innovation.

Beyond music, Tech N9ne’s entrepreneurial spirit shines through Strange Music’s expansive Kansas City headquarters, encompassing label offices, recording studios, merchandise manufacturing, and more. His ventures have earned him multiple appearances on Forbes’s “Hip-Hop Cash Kings” list.

As of May 2025, Tech N9ne continues to break new ground with the release of his upcoming album, 5816 Forest, promising fans another chapter of innovative, hard-hitting music. With millions of records sold and an indelible impact on independent hip-hop, Tech N9ne remains one of the most dynamic and respected voices in the game.
